The 101 Sign Up Jam started from a duty, and a promise. It all began when two locals met in a Ventura tavern to attend an ordinary weekly jam night. These ordinary jams proved to be fun (and are fun), because they force someone to spontaneously do the best they can, even if they don't know the song. Even though that is a great way to improve your improvisational skills, those ordinary jams act as a double edged sword. Since you never know what could happen, some moments could be electric, and others can be hanging by a thread, or just never ending... in a bad way. Being an outsider looking in, the spontaneous, "do the best you can" cliche, isn't for everybody; and there are many people that prefer the comfort of being able to practice. As for those moments that are not so electric,… well let's just say “it's time to leave the room”.
So how can we let people sign up in advance while still keeping an amazing free social event where people can network and even audition for a part or start a new band from meeting at our Sign Up Jam? Oh and it would have to have a full back-line of gear with an amazing sound guy... and on an adequate stage … and to top it off, a free raffle … EUREKA
Chris and Pete heard duty call and set the stage that night on that Ventura tavern patio to provide the best jam night that anyone has to offer. Great stages, great venues that support local business, great tone, and an amazing night held once a month that brings people to a world of music. A night so good, that it would be even pleasant for non-musicians to attend and actually enjoy listening to and maybe even win one of the free raffles.
Our promise is to never waver in quality, provide an inviting and encouraging environment for any skill level, keep admission free forever and always, and to have fun no matter what while supporting local business, supporting ourselves as musicians, and as people.
Okay let's do this, but I'm tired of hearing the same old songs with a bad sound system, and everyone bringing their own gear and taking too long to setup and then being too loud, or worse, not loud enough, especially the singers. Then they go on forever. This will not be the case. I know there's a lot of talent here in Ventura and close by, but we have to make an open jam night better for everyone. I hope everyone who may want to jam signs up and has a good time.
